In this presentation, we discuss the industry forces that inform our thinking about higher education’s Next Normal, discuss the business model that drives EdPerform, and present the suite of solutions, services, and tools we have developed to assist market-sensitive institutions compete – and win – on exceptional value.
Rapid Program Development
In higher ed’s Next Normal, market-reliant academic enterprises will need to act swiftly when evaluating new program opportunities and designing and launching them into the marketplace. We’ve prototyped a 12-week Rapid Program Development solution that gives academic leaders and faculty best-in-class market demand analyses, occupational forecasts, and competitor intelligence to determine the viability of new offerings, along with the design and decision support tools to accelerate program planning and approvals.
Market Demand Dashboards
We are working on models of how market demand and occupational forecast data can be better queried and visualized for academic leaders and faculty, so you can more effectively explore and craft the rationale for investing in current academic programs and launching new ones. Using MS Power BI tools, we’ve created a prototype of an interactive degrees-conferred dashboard for Engineering programs, which we’ll continue to refine and expand for other academic disciplines.

Comparative Value Assessment
Market-reliant universities and colleges will need to make intelligent choices about competitive strategies and positioning for their academic programs and offerings. We have prototyped an elegant decision-support tool to inform those choices by visually relating market demand, competitor volume, market share, price, and differentiated program value. The prototype includes downloadable worksheets so you can calculate your institution’s differentiated value score against those of your competitors.
Admission Journey Mapping
A university or college can make its admissions experience a living expression of its identity and brand and a compelling value differentiator for prospective students and their families. In these presentation materials we offer a coherent model for mapping, evaluating, and improving the Admission Journey, with special attention to creating reliable, evidence-based personas for segmenting and interacting with prospective student markets.
Using NPV in Program Planning
Businesses typically use Net Present Value calculations to determine whether or not to pursue new projects. However, universities and colleges typically look only at cash-flow profitability when evaluating new program ventures, and do not consider the time value of initial and ongoing investments. As an experiment, we restated two new academic program proposals by calculating NPV as well as including a line item for renewal of capital investments. A comparison of the two approaches render intriguing differences and observations.
